EuroQCI (European Quantum Communication Infrastructure) is a European Union project that aims to build a pan-European infrastructure for quantum communications. This infrastructure will ensure secure communications by using the principles of quantum mechanics, specifically to protect data against future cyber attacks.
The EuroQCI project aims not only to ensure the protection of sensitive information, but also to stimulate the development of quantum technologies in Europe and the creation of an ecosystem of industrial partners. This will involve building quantum networks and connecting different EU member states through quantum channels that will be able to support quantum encryption and other advanced security technologies.
Main objectives of EuroQCI:
- Data security: using quantum cryptography to protect communications against future threats, such as those emanating from quantum computers, that could compromise traditional cryptographic systems.
- Inter-country connectivity: Building a connected quantum communications infrastructure between different countries in the EU.
- Stimulating innovation: Supporting research and innovation in quantum technologies and the development of quantum satellite systems.
The EuroQCI project is part of the European Union’s larger strategy for digital sovereignty and strengthening cyber security through innovative technologies, such as quantum communications, which are highly promising for the future of security in the world of information technology.
In 2020, CoC “QUASAR” was officially designated by the State, in the person of the Ministry of Education and Science, to represent Bulgaria in the European initiative by submitting a national project. “AFT” Association is participating in this national project with its own researchers and organizational activities.
